Meet Me At The Races!

For those of you not living in the Bluegrass, today is probably like any usual Friday.  For us, today is bigger than Christmas (and it's respective equivalents) because today is opening day for Keeneland's Spring Meet.  Hallelujah!  I think there's a chorus of angels singing in the background.  Can you hear them?  I can.

Mr. D and I look forward to the Keeneland Spring and Fall meets ALL.YEAR.LONG. so you can bet your bottom dollar we are super, duper, MEGA excited today.  WAHOOOO!  It's finally time for big hats, julep sippin', bowties, sundresses and those pretty ponies!

If you need us this weekend....you can find us at Keeneland!  :)

And now a look back at Keeneland's past...

Our 1st Keeneland experience, many years ago.

April Showers...Bring June Weddings!

This past weekend I had the honor of co-hosting a Bridal Shower for Kim in Atlanta.  (You may remember my weekend trip to Florida for her previous shower.)  Friday afternoon I packed up my car and went scootin' down Interstate 75 to join Dana and Anne, to prepare for the shower we were hosting Saturday morning.  We had been emailing and discussing the logistics of our southern themed kitchen and recipe shower for months, so it was nice to see it all finally come together.

The invitations.

The spread...

Southern favorites.  Pimiento Cheese & Cucumber Dill.

Green Bean Salad.

Granny Smith & Feta Salad.

Can we get any more southern than fried chicken?

The adorable cupcakes.

Nothing more classic than Coke in a glass bottle.

Nothing more tasty than champagne punch or sweet tea!

The favors were Bacon Caramel Popcorn. Recipe Included.
(This was a recipe shower.)

We had Kim's Formal China on display for the guests.
(along with photos of the happy couple scattered throughout the rooms)

The Beautiful Bride.

The Bride with her Grammy, Aunt & Mom.
I loooove her family!

The food turned out better than the three of us could have hoped, everyone seemed to have a great time at our shower and our Bride received some wonderful gifts.  Overall, I would say it was a success.  :)

(Btw, I've recently discovered I love to take photos of food.  Guess I should have been a food photographer? Ha. I probably shouldn't quit my day job.)

Read Between The Wines

Hey y'all!  Happy Wednesday!  (I'm back!)
I didn't get to post about our March/April Book Club yet, so here we go.

For March we all read Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen.  I'm not sure how everyone else felt about it yet because we decided to wait and have our March meeting in April when the Water For Elephants movie comes out.  This means April will be a double whammy and we'll have not one, but TWO books to read and talk about.  :)

I can only tell you how much I loved, loved, loved Water For Elephants.  Once I was past the third chapter I couldn't put the book down and was instantly transformed into a wonderful world of elephants, circus acts, speakeasy's and tales from life on the train as the main character traveled with the touring circus.  I can not wait to see the movie (I love Reese!) and compare the two.

I'm thinking maybe we should even make our meeting food/beverage circus themed...what do y'all think?

For April I have selected Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez.  I recently read a review of this book was very intrigued by the description.  I love history (especially American history) and have always loved to read period pieces.  I don't know much about this book beyond the description, but I do hope it's good because after reading Water For Elephants, Wench certainly has a lot to live up to in order to keep my attention.

Have any of you read Water For Elephants or Wench?  What did you think?

Don't Hate Me...

...for my lack of posting this week...but after my whirlwind weekend in Atlanta, I've been feeling a little exhausted and under the weather.  I promise to back on my usual schedule soon.  Hopefully, tomorrow.
Lucky for me Mr. D went to get me some of my favorite Orange Leaf fro-yo to make me feel better.  :)
(Confetti cake flavor with sprinkles is my current favorite flavor, in case you're wondering.)

Until then, y'all will just have to wait.  But not for long...you know I have lots to say and can't stay away.

Hope your weekend was lovely.
